What’s staying the same?
- It's still full desktop experience
- The hardware servers that wts.umn.edu runs on will continue to be owned and managed by LATIS in CLA.
- Available software applications
- The ability to disconnect and reconnect to a running session (up to 3 days as current)
- The weekly Maintenance Windows (Friday morning between midnight and 1am) where servers may be rebooted to apply patches
- Contacting LATIS at [email protected] for most support and questions
- However, the main helpdesk ( [email protected] and 612-301-HELP) is able to help with Citrix client issues.
- Screen lock time
- Printers
- Access you have to other applications or desktops on AppsToGo will not change
What’s changing?
Connecting
- Connections will use the Citrix client instead of the Windows Remote Desktop client
- Multi-factor authentication (Duo) will be handled by Citrix so a VPN connection will no longer be required either on or off campus.
- The new service is named CLA Research by LATIS - WTS
- Instructions for connecting are those provided by OIT. Any additional guidance for using the system will be at z.umn.edu/wtsconnect
- You will now have the ability to use the web-based “Light” client
Files and Applications
- Our instructions have always requested that your files not be stored locally. The new system will delete files left on the desktop when you log off. Save all data to network or cloud options. Network drives (such as H: or U:), Research Data Shares (R:), Google Drive, and Box Drive are available options.
- The Windows Desktop background will display an image reminding users to store files on network-based storage.
- Several applications (e.g. Julia) will have new Start menu icons that configure them so their packages/add-ons are stored on your H: (CLA) or U: (CSOM) drive.
